Mindfulness
Like any skill we can develop the power of mindfulness through regular practice. First we need clear instruction and experienced guidance. Over time we are able to bring mindfulness into all spheres of life.
Get Involved
Each class is self contained, but a course of eight classes is recommended for those new to the practice of mindfulness meditation
Learning meditation
Meditation brings a state of clarity. It is a relaxed aleartness and allows us to direct our attention as wished. It brings great stability of mind and the power to delve deeply into the real factors creating our lives.
Our meditation classes
Meditation Melbourne eastern suburbs
If you’re living in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs and feel an urge to meditate, then we think you will find our meditation classes in Hawthorn nice and convenient.
Each Tuesday evening we offer an introduction to meditation from 7.00 to 8.00pm. These classes cover a range of meditation techniques and give sufficient background information over a period of about eight weeks for you to be able to continue to practice on your own.
Meditation techniques we cover include calming meditation, stillness meditation, mantra meditation, analytical meditation, insight meditation, visualisation meditation as well as the various forms of mindfulness practice.
These classes are suitable whether you’re entirely new to meditation or have prior experience and wish to develop your practice further. Each class is self-contained but we recommend coming to 8 classes to broaden your understanding and gain experience in guided meditation sessions. If you’re not able to come each week, you can structure attendance to gradually accumulate eight weeks over time.
A convenient venue for the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
The classes are conducted in the main hall at the Augustine centre: 2 Minona street Hawthorn. This location is comfortably accessible for those interested in meditation in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. The hall is carpeted and always a comfortable temperature. It gives the option of meditating cross-legged or in chairs.
You have no doubt heard the many benefits of the practice of meditation. However the main benefit is the capacity to produce greater happiness and less issues in all spheres of life.
The meditation teacher
The classes are given by Toby Gillies. Toby is a Buddhist monk. He has been teaching meditation and Buddhist philosophy for some time.
He currently teaches in Hawthorn but some may have been to his earlier classes in East Melbourne, Balaclava or at the Beaumaris Buddhist meditation centre.
Advanced Buddhist meditation classes
If we pursue real happiness to its complete fulfilment, we will come to a state of constant bliss and peace, a final freedom from suffering and difficulty. This is the opportunity offerd in the more advanced classes on the path to enlightenment. More details of our Buddhist meditation classes are included here.
